For Claire Morel, it is all about reducing the bulletin inked surface, according to her own modus operandi. Yann Sérandour will on the other hand react to a “stained” version of the bulletin.

This summer, Nathalie Daviet-Thery will take part in ART-O-RAMA Marseille contemporary art fair, which will be held on August 29, 30 and 31, 2014.

Together, Nathalie Daviet-Thery and Michèle Didier present a shared curatorial project for this edition of Art-O-Rama 2014. Conceptual art is the common thread running through the works selected by both publishers.

mfc-michèle didier presents SOMETHING IN A BOX by Robert Barry, replaying on its own scale — 10,2 x 15,2 cm — the measurements of the cards — here 62 — that were distributed about forty years ago. This new production actualizes the artist’s work Index Cards, initially created in 1971. A box made of walnut wood gathers here 62 index cards, each one proposing a different statement by Robert Barry. Art lovers, an unbound book by the same artist, contains 31 portraits of famous «Art Lovers» who were photographed by Robert Barry. They are hidden behind a black surface where only the perforation of a word reveals a few clues on the identity of the people behind it. The reader has thus no choice but to reconstruct their faces, to imagine new identities and to replace the «Art Lovers» selected by the artist.

La maison de style colonial hollandais édifiée en 1928 sur deux étages devient le théâtre d’un sextuple meurtre _Ronald Defoe Senior(43 ans), Louise Defeo(42 ans), Dawn Defeo (18 ans), Allison Defeo (13 ans), Marc Defeo (12 ans), John Matthew Defeo (9 ans)_ perpétré par Ronald DeFeo Junior (23 ans).
Jay Anson s’empare de ce fait divers, et écrit The Amityville Horror – A True Story en 1977 que Stuart Rosenberg adaptera au cinéma deux ans plus tard. Cette histoire fait l’objet d’un véritable engouement générant pas moins de dix adaptations cinématographiques.

Dans un immeuble Haussmannien, un appartement vide de 250m2 devient le lieu d’une exposition collective d’artistes contemporains _Jean-Luc BLANC, Bianca CASADY, Nicolas DELPRAT, Vincent EPPLAY, Jacques FLORET, Laurent FRIQUET, Fabien GRANET, Thomas LEVY-LASNE, Filip MARKIEWICZ, Jonathan MARTIN, Vincent MESAROS, Gérald PANIGHI, Loïc RAGUENES, Emmanuel REGENT, Responsable France, Brigitte ZIEGER_ initiée et conçue par Vincent Mesaros, sur invitation de Delphine Ract Madoux (Agent d’artistes).
High Hopes est le nom de cette maison située à Amityville. High Hopes est le nom cette exposition.
La demeure, qui incarne ces grands espoirs, devient ce lieu de passage, d’un état à un autre, de la vie à la mort, du réel à la fiction.
J’ai pris le parti de présenter des reproductions imprimées d’œuvres originales. L’image se déploie, par une mise en abîme, dans les multiples rapports de la représentation d’un objet à son image, et d’une image à son objet. Ce procédé renvoie au cinéma de Roman Polansky (cf.Le locataire), David Lynch, Michael Haneke, à la peinture de René Magritte (cf.Reproduction interdite), Diego Vélasquez (cf.Les Ménines), Jan Van Eyck (cf. Les époux Arnolfini), au mouvement appropriationiste, aux mythes, ou encore aux utopies.
Les grands espoirs résonnent également aujourd’hui comme un impératif fort au regard de la ruine économique, sociale, écologique, qui nous guette.
High Hopes est ce lieu des hypothèses, sur lequel se fondent et s’effondrent des projections, des fictions intimes et incertaines aux couleurs d’espoirs déchus.

Je déballe ma bibliothèque, en écho à l’ouvrage de Walter Benjamin, est une proposition autour de la bibliothèque comme lieu de rencontre, de dialogue et de confrontation

de tous les savoirs, laquelle faisait dire à Jorge Luis Borges ” J’ai toujours imaginé que le paradis serait une sorte de bibliothèque”. À bien des  égards, ce projet, articulé autour de la bibliothèque, est d’ailleurs littéraire. Par son titre, emprunté à Walter Benjamin, mais aussi, sa mobilité qui fait penser au professeur Peter Kien d’Elias Canetti dans Auto-da-fé qui emportait toujours sur lui une parcelle de sa bibliothèque. Et enfin, par sa nature, la bibliothèque, qui évoque inévitablement Jorge Luis Borges.

 

Appelé à se déplacer et ainsi à être réactivé, le contenu de cette bibliothèque varie, s’enrichit au gré de ses déambulations et du contexte; en l’occurence un hôtel de ventes, lieu de présentation et de dispersion d’objets d’art. Ainsi déballée, cette deuxième bibliothèque s’articule autour du thème de la collection qui devient matière de l’oeuvre comme chez Christian Marclay ou Allen Rusperberger, ou son sujet lorsqu’elle est appréhendée sous l’angle de l’accumulation dans une volonté encyclopédique évoquant les cabinets de curiosités avec Mark Dion ou Battia Sutter.

Si la collection se compose d’objets, elle évoque également les notions de convoitise, de désir, de frustration et de fétichisme, ironiquement pointées par Stefan Brüggeman avec sa sentence This Work Is Realized When It Is Bumed qui exhorte le collectionneur à détruire l’oeuvre ou encore Yann Sérandour et son Incomplete Open Cube.

Unpacking my library, echoing Walter Benjamin’s book, is a proposition revolving around the library as a meeting place, a place of dialogue, where all knowledge is compared, which caused Jorge Luis Borges to say: “I’ve always imagined that paradise would be a sort of library”.

In many respects, this project organized around the library is also literary. Through its title borrowed from Walter Benjamin.

Through its mobility which calls to mind Elias Canetti’s professor Peter Kien in Auto-da-fé, who always carried on him a piece of his library. And  lastly, through its nature, the library which inevitably conjures up Jorge  Luis Borges.

Required to move and therefore to be reactivated, the content of this library varies, is enriched depending on its wanderings and of the context in which it appears, in this case an auction house, a space where art works are exhibited and scattered.

Presented in this manner, this second library is structured around the theme of collection which becomes the substance of the piece as seen with Christian Marclay or Allen Ruppersberg…  or its subject when it is perceived as accumulation with an encyclopedic intent, reminding one of Mark  Dion or Battia Sutter’s curiosity cabinets.If the collection is composed of objects, it is also evocative of notions such as envy, desire, frustration and fetichism, which are ironically pointed out by Stefan Brüggeman in his sentence This work is realised when it is burned  exhorting the collector to destroy the work, or Yann Sérandour and his Incomplete Open Cube .

En 1974, Georges Pérec, tente pendant trois jours d’affilée et à différents moments de la journée de saisir tout ce qu’il voit place Saint-Sulpice où il s’est installé. Cette «Tentative d’épuisement d’un lieu parisien’ qui sera publiée en 1975 sert de point de départ à cette proposition qui s’articule autour de la notion d’enregistrement et de représentation de l’espace urbain.

 Alors que l’étymologie du mot représentation désigne “l’action de replacer devant les yeux de quelqu’un”, ce qui tend à donner à la représentation une définition restrictive, cette proposition s’attache au contraire à en confronter les différentes formes que cela soit par l’image, le mot ou encore le son.

Ce projet multi facette s’inscrit dans l’espace même de la ville autour d’un point fixe, un lieu d’art contemporain Cruce dans la rue Docteur Fourquet. Cette exposition s’articule autour des travaux photographique de Benoît Fougeirol, Nicolas Aiello, des livres de stanley brown, On kawara, Daniel Buren, d’un film de David Lamelas et d’un environnement sonore de Gauthier Keyaerts à partir de différentes sources : Scanner, Edgar Varese, Bill Fontana, Steve Roden, Rainier Lericolais…

Deux projets ont été commandés à Matt Mulican et Steve Roden, lesquels se glissent dans les interstices de la ville par une dissémination d’affiches, réalisées par eux même, ici et là. Une manière de poser ainsi la question de la place de l’art au sein de l’espace public et des formes qu’il doit prendre.

En écho, Tentative(s) d’Epuisement se développe au sein de l’ARCO en prenant part à la section As tables are shelves afin d’étendre l’espace urbain dans un contexte artistique sous forme d’une librairie avec des projets de livres de Yona Friedman, Jorge Macchi, Ingo Giezendanner, Gabriel Basilico , Toine Horvers, Christian Marclay, Matt Mulican, Francis Alys, Beat Streuli, Andrea Branzi, and Archigram.

In 1974, for three days running and at different moments of the day, Georges Perec tried to record everything he could see in Place Saint-Sulpice, where he had set up home. This Attempt at Exhausting a Place in Paris, which would be published in 1975, acts as a point of departure for this proposition, organized around the notion of recording and representing the urban space. While the etymology of the word representation gives “the act of replacing (something) before someone’s eyes”, which tends to give representation a restrictive definition, this proposition strives, on the contrary, to tackle its different forms, be it through image, word or sound.

This polymorphous project is incorporated in the actual space of the city around a fixed point, a place of contemporary art, Cruce, in Rue Docteur Fourquet, and is organized around a piece by Claire Morel and two in situ works by Benoît Fougeirol and Nicolas Aiello, which are echoed  by books by stanley brouwn, Daniel Buren, Peter Downsbrough, and On Kawara, a film by David Lamelas, and an acoustic environment by Gauthier Keyaerts based on different sources: Scanner, Bill Fontana, Steve Roden, and Rainier Lericolais…

Like an extension in the city’s actual space, and slipping into the city’s interstices, a poster commission was organized with Steve Roden. A way of thus raising the issue of art within the public place and the forms it should take.

Like an echo, Attempt(s) at Exhausting  is being developed actually within the ARCO, as part of the section As Tables are Shelves, in order to bring the urban space into an artistic context in the form of a bookshop with titles by Francis Alys, Andrea Branzi, Peter Downsbrough, Yona Friedman, Ingo Giezendanner, Toine Horvers, Jorge Macchi, Matt Mulican,, Beat Streuli …

En 1944, Bruno Munari (1907-1998) réalise une série d’images intitulées Ricerca della comodità in una poltrona scomoda (Recherche du confort dans un fauteuil inconfortable), laquelle sera publiée pour la première fois dans la revue Domus (n°202, Octobre 1944) afin d’illustrer un article qu’il consacre, avec humour, à la prolifération des formes d’assises et à leur inconfort. L’exposition présente différents posters d’artistes d’aujourd’hui inspirés de ces images.

Un projet d’édition initié par Christophe Daviet-Théry autour de Bruno Munari ayant donné lieu à des co-éditions avec le CNEAI pour Leonor Antunes, Koenraad Dedobbeleer, Johannes Wohnseifer et Erwin Wurm et la Galerie Antoine Levy pour Daniel Jacoby.
