TENTATIVE (S) D’EPUISEMENT
Dans le cadre de la Foire d’art Contemporain ARCO/Madrid
Alors que l’étymologie du mot représentation désigne “l’action de replacer devant les yeux de quelqu’un”, ce qui tend à donner à la représentation une définition restrictive, cette proposition s’attache au contraire à en confronter les différentes formes que cela soit par l’image, le mot ou encore le son.
Ce projet multi facette s’inscrit dans l’espace même de la ville autour d’un point fixe, un lieu d’art contemporain Cruce dans la rue Docteur Fourquet. Cette exposition s’articule autour des travaux photographique de Benoît Fougeirol, Nicolas Aiello, des livres de stanley brown, On kawara, Daniel Buren, d’un film de David Lamelas et d’un environnement sonore de Gauthier Keyaerts à partir de différentes sources : Scanner, Edgar Varese, Bill Fontana, Steve Roden, Rainier Lericolais…
Deux projets ont été commandés à Matt Mulican et Steve Roden, lesquels se glissent dans les interstices de la ville par une dissémination d’affiches, réalisées par eux même, ici et là. Une manière de poser ainsi la question de la place de l’art au sein de l’espace public et des formes qu’il doit prendre.
En écho, Tentative(s) d’Epuisement se développe au sein de l’ARCO en prenant part à la section As tables are shelves afin d’étendre l’espace urbain dans un contexte artistique sous forme d’une librairie avec des projets de livres de Yona Friedman, Jorge Macchi, Ingo Giezendanner, Gabriel Basilico , Toine Horvers, Christian Marclay, Matt Mulican, Francis Alys, Beat Streuli, Andrea Branzi, and Archigram.

TENTATIVE (S) D’EPUISEMENT/ ATEMPT (S) AT EXHAUTING
In 1974, for three days running and at different moments of the day, Georges Perec tried to record everything he could see in Place Saint-Sulpice, where he had set up home. This Attempt at Exhausting a Place in Paris, which would be published in 1975, acts as a point of departure for this proposition, organized around the notion of recording and representing the urban space. While the etymology of the word representation gives “the act of replacing (something) before someone’s eyes”, which tends to give representation a restrictive definition, this proposition strives, on the contrary, to tackle its different forms, be it through image, word or sound.
This polymorphous project is incorporated in the actual space of the city around a fixed point, a place of contemporary art, Cruce, in Rue Docteur Fourquet, and is organized around a piece by Claire Morel and two in situ works by Benoît Fougeirol and Nicolas Aiello, which are echoed by books by stanley brouwn, Daniel Buren, Peter Downsbrough, and On Kawara, a film by David Lamelas, and an acoustic environment by Gauthier Keyaerts based on different sources: Scanner, Bill Fontana, Steve Roden, and Rainier Lericolais…
Like an extension in the city’s actual space, and slipping into the city’s interstices, a poster commission was organized with Steve Roden. A way of thus raising the issue of art within the public place and the forms it should take.
Like an echo, Attempt(s) at Exhausting is being developed actually within the ARCO, as part of the section As Tables are Shelves, in order to bring the urban space into an artistic context in the form of a bookshop with titles by Francis Alys, Andrea Branzi, Peter Downsbrough, Yona Friedman, Ingo Giezendanner, Toine Horvers, Jorge Macchi, Matt Mulican,, Beat Streuli …
